We think Memorial Hill is one of the best hidden gems in the area! It is approximately 1km from our Shell Lake cabins and makes for a comfortable walk, or a quick drive with a conveniently close parking lot across the road specifically for those visiting Memorial Hill. The Royal Canadian Legion Shell Lake Branch, with help from local volunteers have made Memorial Hill a great place to learn about the history of the area and the war, and pay respect to local veterans in the area. It is said that the stones that built the monument on Memorial Hill came from the war veterans homesteads in the area, making this place a rich part of Shell Lake, Saskatchewan, and Canadian history.
Look at this view from Memorial Hill!
No matter the season, Memorial Hill offers a breathtaking view of a beautiful Saskatchewan landscape. In the distance is Memorial Lake, which is in Memorial Lake Regional Park just minutes from Aurora Skies Resorts. It is a ways up with stairs at the beginning and a nicely made cement ramp. There are benches for people to take a rest if needed. This summer, Camille was walking to Memorial Hill and running the stairs as a form of exercise and to increase her heart rate. Great outdoor exercise, a great view, and a great place to rest and remember our war veterans? Nothing beats that! Our favourite time to visit Memorial Hill is in autumn, when the leaves are changing colours to vibrant yellows, oranges, and red and the sun sets right over Memorial Lake. When you stay at our cabins in Shell Lake, ask us how to get to Memorial Hill, or other spots in the area. We love giving recommendations and ensuring our guests are able to experience the beauty of this spot in Saskatchewan partake in the amenities and activities the area has to offer.
